University of Oxford / Open University: Climate Creativity
Oakbeam Pictures was commissioned by the University of Oxford, in collaboration with the Open University, to create an animated film exploring the role of creativity and language in responding to the climate crisis. The aim was to support discussion around how ideas, words, and cultural narratives shape the way people understand and engage with climate change.
The animation was developed as part of an online event aimed at younger audiences, where lecturers led a facilitated workshop focused on creative writing, reflection, and discussion. Participants were encouraged to explore what climate creativity might look like in practice, and how their own use of language and imagination could influence attitudes and action.
The visual style was intentionally pitched to engage a younger audience, without compromising the seriousness of the subject matter. Our role was to balance accessibility with credibility, creating a piece that supported thoughtful conversation while remaining grounded in the realities of the climate emergency. The resulting film functioned as a catalyst for learning, discussion, and creative engagement across education and climate contexts.
